A 71-year-old male patient visited his family doctor complaining of persistent mid-abdominal discomfort that had lasted for about a day. He showed no fever and no indications of systemic infection.

Physical examination revealed localized tenderness in the right upper quadrant, while the liver appeared normal in size and texture on palpation.

A point-of-care examination was then performed using the Evemed Portable Ultrasound. Scanning from the right subcostal area clearly revealed a small echogenic focus within a contracted gallbladder, producing a distinct posterior acoustic shadow — findings consistent with a gallstone.

The patient was managed conservatively with oral antibiotics and discharged for outpatient follow-up and surgical consultation.

Summary

Point-of-care use of portable ultrasound devices such as the Evemed system enables clinicians to confirm suspected biliary pathology quickly, enhancing diagnostic confidence and guiding appropriate treatment decisions in general practice.
